Drive Belts (Rubber Bands)
Drive Belts for Rubber-Band Driven Locomotives and Accessories.
For early "rubber band" drive locomotives. These fit Lil' Hustler, RDC, rotary snow plow, early F3, F7, GP9 and many other locomotives from Varney, Athearn, HO gauge Lionel and others. These bands connect pulleys or shafts on some motors to the drive axels.
Please note that these are not Traction Bands (or Tires) If you need traction tires, we are currently working to add them to our product offerings but don't have them in stock yet. In the mean time go to eBay and search on "Stewart" or "Calumet" brands. Pack #505 will fit most diesels but verify it before you buy, there are a lot of packs for different steam engines.
We offer them in several colors and pack sizes.
As for why we offer them in other colors; There is really no difference, same specifications, size and material. Some locos, the like the old Varney's from the early 50's' have two sets of pulleys and with a modified paper clip it's possible to change them without opening the locomotive. However, it's really dark in there no matter how you try to light it, so a colored belt like bright red, orange or yellow can be helpful. Other than that, it's really just personal preference.
hese are not "precision made" bands. The approximate size:
- Inside diameter (across) 9/16ths .
- Thickness average 3/64ths.
- Width is 1/32nd.
Note: We've been using them on my locos since we started selling them (2009) and they work perfectly in place of Athearn, Varney, and UPC204 belts.
